I was in the car with my wife and almost-three-year-old son, Josh, when we passed the point where I'd taken photos of the Olympic Torch Relay.
Me: That's where the man was standing, and that's where I was taking the photo.
Josh: Where's the man?
Me: He ran away.
Josh: Why?
Me: Because he had a torch.
Josh: Why?
Me: Because he was part of the Olympic Torch Relay.
Josh: Why?
Me: Because SOCOG wanted to include people from all around Australia to get National Buy In.
Josh: Why?
Me: Because the marketing strategy called for the support of as many people as possible.
Josh: Why?
Me: Because they wanted to raise as much money as possible with which to fill their coffers.
Josh: Why?
Me: So they can all rest assured of their financial freedom and can feel happy about their retirement into millions.
Josh: Why?
Me: Because our society revolves around money in it's various currencies.
Josh: Why?
Me: Because we live in a capatalist society driven by greed, with the Marxist dream of a purely communist society having proven a failure because of said greed.
Josh: Why?
Me: Because humans are, by nature, greedy, self-serving, and involved entirely within themselves, unable to fully grasp the concept of altruism, fending only for themselves, trying desperately to survive.
Josh: Why?
Me: Because it's in out genetic makeup, our DNA, in the basest form of our existance, from years of evolution that has created a super-species that has conquered all others, enslaved all others, and at the same time ensalved itself.
Josh: Why?
Me: Because.
Josh: Why?
Me: Because.
Josh: Why? Why? Why?
Me: Because. Because. Because.
Josh: Dad?
Me: [turning] Yes?
Josh: Look at this [flips the bird].
Me: I guess I deserved that.
My wife was not amused.
