poem of the day
Wise Man
10/12/2001
Three years at University,
Studying
Has not taught me wisdom
Rather
I have learnt the art
Of sounding wise.

I take three clauses
Wrapped around a simple subject
Obscure focus on the object
And produce meaning
From the meaningless.

For example:

It is the shepherd
Not the sheep
That fears the wolf.

And:

It is far easier to
Discredit a man
Than prove him wrong.

This has increased my standing
Amongst philosophers, photographers
And philanderers,
When asked a question
The reply is always
Faux wise.

How are you?

It is not how I am,
But how I will be,
That matters.

Pardon?

Listening is an art
Lost in youth
And gained in years.

Do you want a fat lip?

One can talk the talk,
But can one
Walk the walk?

Since my transition from
Idiot to quote magician
I’ve taken to walking softly
And carrying a big
Baseball bat.
